How to Grant a WiSh

If you want to give

1. Find a WiSh. Use Browse 1WiShes or the Find a WiSh box. Every wish you see has already been reviewed by our team.
2. Send a message. On the wish, click I can help and say what you can give and where you are. Your email is never shared — replies come to your Messages.
3. Wait to be chosen. The person who posted may hear from several people. When they choose you, the wish is marked Matched and you'll see it in Messages.
4. Agree on the details in Messages. Decide together on pickup, shipping, or a time for a service. Keep the conversation on 1to1WiSh.
5. Hand it over. Follow the delivery and safety tips below.
6. Mark it completed. Either of you can click Mark as completed in Messages once it's done.

If you posted a WiSh

1. Watch for your approval email. Once approved, your wish is live for people to see.
2. Read your messages. People who can help will message you in Messages.
3. Choose one person. Click Choose on the conversation you'd like to go ahead with. Your wish is marked Matched and removed from Browse.
4. Arrange the details, then mark it completed. And when you're able, pay it forward. 💛

About taxes: a WiSh you grant goes directly to another person, not to 1to1WiSh, so it is a personal gift and is not tax deductible. Only monetary donations made to 1to1WiSh itself, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, may be deductible. Please ask a tax professional about your situation.

Ways to hand over a WiSh

Pickup. Meet in a busy public place in daylight — many police stations have a marked "safe exchange zone," and libraries or coffee shops work well too. Bring a friend if you can, and check the item before you accept it.

Shipping. The giver chooses one of three options on the wish: pickup only, shipping paid by the person receiving it, or shipping the giver covers. Share a mailing address only after you've been matched, and only in Messages. Use tracking, and send the tracking number in Messages. 1to1WiSh never handles postage money — the person paying buys the label or pays the carrier directly.

Time and skills. Tutoring, mentoring, and advice can often happen online. For in-person help, such as a repair or a ride, agree on the time and place in Messages first and follow the safety tips below.

Bills paid to a provider (last resort). 1to1WiSh is mainly about items, time and skills. A bill is approved only when the person has already tried every other source of help, and the giver pays the provider directly:

• The person receiving help shares the provider's name and the bill or account number in Messages — a photo of the bill helps. Never share a bank account, card number, or password.
• The giver pays the provider directly, through the provider's official website, phone line, or office.
• The person receiving help confirms the payment arrived, and then you mark the wish completed.
• Money never goes from one user to another, and never through 1to1WiSh.

Donated vehicles. Have a car, truck, or motorcycle you no longer need — perhaps one that belonged to a loved one who has passed? It can be a life-changing WiSh for a family. 1to1WiSh accepts wishes for a used vehicle given directly by its owner, never money toward buying one or car payments.

• Only the legal owner (or the estate's representative) can give the vehicle. Have the title in hand.
• Meet in a safe public place, ideally a police "safe exchange zone." The person receiving it can bring someone they trust to look the vehicle over.
• Be honest about its condition. It's given as-is.
• Transfer the title legally following your state's or country's motor-vehicle rules, and remove your license plates if required. The new owner registers and insures it.
• No money changes hands: not for the car, not for "fees."

Stay safe

• Never send money to another user, and never ask for it — no cash, gift cards, payment apps, or "fees."
• Never share bank or card details, passwords, or ID numbers.
• Keep conversations on 1to1WiSh. Be careful if someone pushes you to move to WhatsApp, text, or email.
• Share your home address only if you're comfortable, and only after you've been matched.
• Trust your instincts. You can stop any exchange that doesn't feel right.
